Long travel day

Here we are in our hotel in New York. It has been a long, long day of travel - around 27 hours from our front door to where we are now. It all went smoothly, no major hiccups. LAX was a mass of queues, as usual. It is a tough airport to enter a country especially when you are connecting to another flight. Everytime you get through one section, you discover you have just gotten access to another queue. But finally, we got to our hotel, we had dinner in an Irish pub and we are getting ready for an early night.

It is early days but one observation I have of Americans is that they have two modes they operate in. One is super friendly where they are so over the top they sound like they are doing something really helpful for you even though they have only just said hello. The other mode is really abrupt and in your face, demanding what they want from you. It is definitely a different way of communicating from the typical Australian.

Sorry we haven't any photos yet. Wasn't the best day for it today.

  1. Great stuff!!! I'm not surprised at those initial observations - seen it many times myself. "thankyou sir" , "can I help you maam", but lurching toward brusque/rude at times also.

    Looking forward to photos .....
